Katie Herbine of EGStoltzfus talks about the advantages of luxury vinyl plank, or LVP.
No flooring material is completely indestructible. However, luxury vinyl plank, or LVP, is considered one of the most scratch-resistant materials on the market today. LVP is available in a variety of wood looks.
How It’s Made
LVP is manufactured by imprinting a series of wood-look visuals onto a material core backer, using heat and pressure. This process creates the wear layer. Since LVP is not real wood, there can be some pattern repeat, which may be more noticeable in large open areas.
Durability
We gauge the durability of LVP based on the wear layer of the material. Our introductory LVP has a six-millimeter wear layer. As we move up through the tiers, the wood visuals improve, giving your floor a more realistic appearance with less pattern repetition.
Scratch Resistance
While this flooring type is considered scratch resistant, no flooring material is completely scratch- or damage-proof. For example, LVP can scratch if you move a heavy object across it, such as an appliance.
Installation
In new construction, we use a glue-down installation with lauan underlayment. Over time, you may notice some lifting or gapping between boards in your new home. This is normal.
Choice Based on Lifestyle
Based on your specific lifestyle, we will narrow in on the material type that is right for you. Engineered hardwood could provide the performance you are looking for in your new home.
